Who Taught You That?
By daniel | March 15, 2005
This is my favorite question of all time, I think. “Who taught you that?” can be asked to find the root of almost any problem you can think of. Let's try the beginning. Adam and Eve are in the garden, and they screw up. God walks into the garden and Adam says, “I'm hiding because I'm naked.” God replies, effectively, “Who taught you those things about yourself?” The answer of course, even more than “the serpent,” is, “not God.” God, the author of all things good and all knowledge and wisdom, is the only place we can truly be safe in being taught.
Of course, a mature disciple will be just like his master. This has two applications for me and you. First, being just like Jesus means being a master teacher of life and the kingdom. If you find a mature disciple, they can teach you authoritatively on life and the kingdom. Grab them and learn from them, keeping in mind that you are both brothers/sisters and Jesus is the master. Second, you can be just like Jesus as you become a mature disciple. Rock on. Train under Jesus through all and any avenue you can find.
And, as always, keep questioning those things that don't quite jive as Jesus shows them to you — you can ask “Who taught me this?” You probably don't even have to have a definitive answer if it isn't Jesus. Just decide to find out and believe what Jesus the master teacher of life and the kingdom has to say about the topic.
