Communication - The North Star

By daniel | March 28, 2005

This is the seventh and last in a series of essays based on my reading of The Revolutionary Communicator, by Jedd Medefind and Erik Lokkesmoe.

The North Star

This last chapter in the book is the real kicker, and has much less to do with simply communication, as it does your whole life, and thus, more to do with actual communication than anything else!  (you might have to read that twice!).
A few thoughts, then a quote and I'll be done.  The North Star refers to by what or whom everything else is judged by.  It refers to final absolute goals and where you're headed.  Those thoughts by, only the book itself can say what it's trying to say best:

In the end, only Jesus' definition of success will free us to fully live out his communication.  Because he did not measure success in terms of his image, agenda, or self-indulgence, Jesus could give himself fully, risking all, to the very best communication.  This path is open to us as well.  Communicators who define success as Jesus did will gain the success they seek:  They will serve through their communication.  And, almost unexpectedly, they will discover also the added benefits of impact, connection, and influence — qualities that so many others seek but rarely find.

These are just a few thoughts, as we seek to actually love each other well, and communicate instead of just passing information.
