"Trust" Language
By daniel | May 10, 2005
I've been thinking this morning. It's dangerous. But don't worry about me. I think we've gotten confused about belief. Belief, it seems to me, has gone the way of those words used so often that they come to mean something practically that the word wasn't originally intended to mean.
Belief seems to have less to do with mental assent and more to do with trust language. “Believe in me” seems to imply a relationship, not an agreement. I doubt what Jesus really wants is people who just agree with what He has to say. His statements involving belief seem to stem from a desire for us to cast ourselves upon him as our only hope. To risk it all on Him coming through for us. To follow Him wherever He may lead.
