Wasted Suffering

By daniel | July 29, 2005

I've been attending a study on suffering lately, and last night we discussed the concept of suffering being wasted or used wisely.  Let me give a quick summary.
Our response to suffering really does determine it's usefulness.  A response of turning to the Spirit and allowing the suffering to kill off the natural man is one that will introduce divine life and overall gain for all involved and around.  An other response — any other response — will just be reinforcing the natural man.  This natural man is by default, even in it's good actions, against the Spirit.  It was spun off from the world, and still carries the spin of the world.  The Spirit is a completely different spin — the very spin of Divine Life.  Because of this, we do not seek to change or reform or beautify the natural man.  We seek to kill it and replace it with the divine life.  Suffering, or rather the proper response to it, is the way to do this.
We considered the coal that suffers to become a diamond, the oyster that suffers to produce a pearl.
