Flooded New Orleans via Satellite

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

New Orleans from space.  I've circled the greater New Orleans area in red for perspective.  The important thing to note is the bluish tint over the land in that area, which indicates flooding.  From this view, it looks like most of the city is underwater.  The image came from the USGS LandSat project.

Piper on Swagger in Christian Culture

Friday, August 26th, 2005

John Piper wrote this article a few days ago, and it has really made me think a lot about being a believer in this world, and not necessarily just in America, England, Afghanistan, or wherever you are.  Here's an excerpt:

Being Christian exiles in American culture does not end our influence; it takes the swagger out […]

Check it Out, GlobalNewsBreak.com

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

A few of you guys are already aware of this, but I'm working on a new web site, GlobalNewsbreak.com, which is basically an aggregator for world news as it comes through from various sources.  I'd suggest you check it out frequently, or maybe even make it your home page.  It's still under construction, and none […]

Done for Christ

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

Only one life, 'twill soon be past– Only what's done for Christ will last.
Now, at the risk of being called (or BEING) a “deeper-lifer” - I'd like to suggest that this oft-quoted line is misleading.  I think what you come away with from hearing this is that you simply ought to go “do for Christ.”  […]

New Jeff Deyo Cd - SURRENDER

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

Yes.
I bought this CD a few days after it came out.  I really just love Jeff Deyo's work.  Fantastic.  This CD is a live performance CD, and while those aren't my favorites, the music is still oh, so good.  So I would suggest borrowing or buying this CD.
It's got several live versions of songs from […]

Pharisee and Publican RETOLD

Monday, August 15th, 2005

Below is a retelling of the Pharisee and the Publican parable — in this one, the pharisee is replaced by a too-cool-for-you Emergent church subscriber.
Emergent Hipster ? “I thank you. Lord, that I am not like this traditionalist: stiff, irrelevant, uncool, a real Gen-Xer, not. I practice authenticity by coordinating my fashion with my spirituality. […]

the Jesus of Suburbia

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

The full text of the below quote is at Odyssey.

What often passes for Christianity may be religious but is not Christianity–not yet at least (and one wonders if it ever will be given such a start). Culture Christians are not terribly interested in Jesus of the Bible who said such silly things like: "love your […]

Dieter Zander and Dallas Willard on the emerging church

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Below came from Jordan Cooper's blog… hereDieter Zander and Dallas Willard on the emerging church in Leadership Journal

Dieter Zander: The emerging church is really saying that the kingdom of God is bigger than the evangelical Christian world. Sometimes that is communicated in constructive ways, sometimes not. But I believe they have a healthy desire to […]

Why I Listen to the Newsboys

Monday, August 8th, 2005

DEVOTION - This is their newest album.  Each song speaks much of being dedicated and maturely devoted to the Lord, His Kingdom, and His Mission. There is also the obligatory cover of a popular worship song.

ADORATION - This album gives a great perspective of the world praising the Lord, and it helps me say things […]
