Smile and Repent

By daniel | September 14, 2005

We've been talking about generosity, and how it fits and looks in/as the life of someone following Jesus.  I'd just like to echo something that Virgil said this last week — “Smile and gladly repent - Change the way you think about what is yours until you no longer think it yours.”  Be glad that you've been given the opportunity to see (even if just a wee bit more) the way that the world actually is, and your actual place in the world.
My family has been increasingly seeing the connection between where our money and time go and finding our purpose in the world, in life, in the church.  It's a connection so important, that I think you can't grasp your purpose as a person, while gripping money and things so tightly, for whatever reason we hold it (security, pleasure, etc).
So, in a nutshell, I am thankful for, and smile about the opportunity to change the way I think.  Learning to truly look for and see needs, even inconvenient needs, around me, and giving out of compassion for those hurting, is truly a gift from Jesus.  I am glad to change my ways to His, as I am able to cooperate in the learning.
