His Plan for His Money That I Watch
By daniel | November 18, 2005
No one wants to have a sore spot touched, and likewise a society with many sores will twitch when someone has the courage to touch one and say: “You have to treat that. You have to get rid of that.”
Oscar Romero
I know our society has many spots that are automatically off-limits for Jesus or his people to point out in my life. Read that again, and make sure you get it, cause I imagine we're all like that to one degree or another. For example, I'm not all that agitated if you tell me that I work too much or watch too much TV. But don't you tell me how to handle my money. There's so much culture just in that last statement. Note, for instance, the my before the money. Note the "rugged individualism" that will make me crash and burn, barely escaping the flames once my money explodes in my face. Note the camel of mine that will have a hard time at any city gate (or "needle's eye," as Jesus calls it). Ah, but the changes that Jesus wants to make in my heart are so much more far-reaching than working less or watching less TV can fix. The changes Jesus wants to make have to go deeper, and for that, I must open myself more and more to his thoughts on deeper matters, like his plan for my finances.
