The Jury is Still Out
By daniel | November 23, 2005
A great quote by Tony JonesAbout then, another guy spoke up: "OK, then why don't you just put the argument to rest and make a definitive statement about what Emergent believes about absolute truth."
I replied, "Emergent doesn't have a position on absolute truth, or on anything for that matter. Do you show up at a dinner party with your neighbors and ask, 'What's this dinner party's position on absolute truth?' No, you don't, because it's a non-sensical question."
I might take flack for this, but my jury is still out on the Emergent "movement". Those close to the core of this movement take a statement such as the above as a great example of what is so good about it, but it just leaves me confused, and reminded of some postmodern nihilism… Fact is, I could go to a dinner party and ask for the consensus on an issue. I could approach the local church for a definite thought on any matter, and hopefully get God's definitive thoughts on it, from His people.
Quote is here, and original article is here.
