Finding the North Star
By daniel | December 28, 2005
I think Jesus leads different people to different places. I think Jesus has a different purpose for everyone, and a different contribution to His kingdom. For the sake of argument, let's call that mission –that contribution — a person's North Star. I didn't coin the term myself. It came from here.
My North Star is what hinges every decision that I make. It gives me purpose, and a reason to get up in the morning. Jesus has something for each of us, and lately I've really been seeking Him asking for specifics. This is heavy — whatever the answer, whatever my purpose is, it might affect everything from which job I work and house I choose, to which coathanger I hang my coat on.
But so frequently I just drift. There's so much to get done, so many decisions that could just be easily made to get by. If just normal life is hard enough work, how much harder would a life of purpose be? I don't know, but it reminds me of a quote I like from the most recent Harry Potter movie — "you must choose between what is right and what is easy."
I really want it to be right, though. I really want to be able, when faced with any decision, to be able to look at the compass, and know which is the way Jesus is leading me. This is what I am seeking recently.
