Just the Benediction I Want to Hear
By daniel | January 27, 2006
Usually after a gathering, we have someone declare a benediction for those present to end our meeting. Usually, it's hard to find someone to volunteer, though a simple 'grace and peace' would be just fine. Reading in I Peter today, I ran across this, which would certainly be a departure from the normal benedictions we hear!
May God, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. (I Pet 5:10)
Now, I'm sure that was very audience-specific, since Peter was writing to the global Church under the persecution of Rome, but still, he saw suffering as beneficial - something to be walked through gladly. Interesting.
