Apprenticeship, Timothy, and the Way of Jesus

How often in life do we choose our own models? By models, I mean our examples — do we choose wisely? Or do our models frequently choose us? I guess the real heart of the matter is this question: For any given area of life, who taught us to do things the way we do them? A thoughtful response would be that if we didn't learn something from the Master of Life and Living, Jesus, then perhaps our model is flawed.
