Jesus and Extreme Environmentalism
By daniel | February 11, 2006
This was the word of the day a while ago, and got me thinking:
ahimsa: The principle of refraining from harming any living being.
How much of what we would call an 'environmentalist' would Jesus be? It's a hard line for me to draw. Jesus certainly cares a great deal about his creation, his world. But He's also quite clear that human life, and indeed, the human soul, is of much higher value. Coming to mind are his comments on the worth of people to God above and beyond God's gracious care for sparrows (Lk 12:6-7) and flowers (Mt 6:25-34), and also Jesus cursing a tree as an example to his disciples (Mt 21:10-21).
