Love is the Path to Holiness
By daniel | February 20, 2006
We're studying the book of I Thessalonians these days at our local gathering, and one little thing stuck out to me today. In 3:12, Paul says that he hopes that the Lord will make you 'increase and abound in love to one another and to all (just like we do towards you),' but for the purpose of letting God establish our hearts 'blameless in holiness'. When you talk about holiness and blamelessness, how often do we think of the law, and how often do we think of abounding in love towards our brothers and sisters?
Paul pretty clearly spells out here that the path to perfection (ie, holiness and blamelessness) is paved by our love for one another. He didn't emphasize spiritual disciplines, though they can help our heart love more easily. He didn't emphasize rote performance, though consistency is certainly important. He emphasized love for the brethren. Amen.
