DayWalkers
By daniel | March 24, 2006
Almost every week in the study we've been doing as a church, we're asked to put some verses in our own words. I'm not trying to claim divine inspiration here, and if you want God's actual words, I've put the reference here, but this is just what stood out to me:
I Thessalonians 5:1-11 (The How-Daniel-Reads-It-Version)
You all already know the times we live in, and that the Day of the Lord will surprise everyone. Just like labor to a pregnant woman, it will spring suddenly upon them, not bringing simply pain, but destruction — and they will not escape.
But you are not in darkness, and will not be overtaken by this Day. You are all sons of light - yes, you are sons of this Day already. And as people of the Day, let us stay awake and pay attention. Let's not sleep or get drunk as people do at night. But let us be thoughtful and self-controlled, guarding our hearts with faith and love, and guarding our minds by being mindful of the hope of our salvation. For God has not destined us for his wrath, but for His rescue through King Jesus who died in our stead, so that whether we live or sleep, we should be together with Him. Continue to comfort each other as you have already been.
