Jesus Learned Who He Was From Scripture

By daniel | July 10, 2006

Background:  Last night we talked about the Messianic prophecies in Isaiah.   An interesting point that came up and was then strengthened in our gathering was the thought that Jesus learned who He was from Scripture.  This, like many other things, is not how I've always thought, but makes sense.  Jesus, called by God, found the details of his calling within the Scriptures.  Every word he said dripped of the Torah.  He spoke of justice and mercy like a prophet.  His words carried the artistry of the Psalms.   He knew the commandments of God, and the implied character of God, better than Moses himself.
So when Isaiah speaks of the Servant of the LORD, the true Israel, the Messiah, and that he would be like this or like that, Jesus could read it and say, this is me — this is my place.  (Regardless of however terrible the described life is)
So I think I may spend some time reading the vast amounts of Scripture that describe my own place within God's people.  You guys can follow along with me, and I'll keep you updated on here.  That way, when I read that my life should look this way or that, we can all say, this is me — this is my place, regardless of the immense joy and difficulty of it all.
