Peru 2006: hola from Peru

By daniel | July 23, 2006

yesterday was a long day. we got up and had oatmeal for breakfast. then we headed out to a villiage called huillak (more or less). it sound like wiyak. it took like 30 or 45 minutes to load all the tools. the boys built a wall and a half of the only church building that will soon be up and running in that town. it was out of adobe brick (very hard work). The elderly ladies, karen and i helped lydia the super cook make lunch in one of the brother's house. we made chicken and vegtable soup. julie and cammie ran back and forth filling water bottles making agtorade and running errands. etc. then we had lunhc in shifts and the boys went back to work. the girls and gary got to hold a kids program in the city plaza. we told a story and colored and gave them candy. karen stayed and took care of the boys. then we started packing up around 530ish and got onour way. we rode in 2 cars, brad's landrover and a little car that belongs to freddy one of the peruvian brothers that lives here with the shaws. he is like the main man who goes out to villiages to evangelize. well, lydia, the cook, gary jon jon, and me rode with freddy. it is about a hour and a half trip. after about an hour, we heard a thump and then the car stopped going. the tire had wheel had fallen off. about one minute later i held jonathan's hair back while he threw up on the side of the rode right near where all the brothers would later be standing. about 15 minutes later brad arrived. we were stuck while the boys worked on the car for about 3 hours before we decided to take a group back. durring that time karen also threw up. brad's daughter janelle and gary stayed with freddy and santiago to help, while brad shuttled the rest of us home. durring the ride adam said he really missed brownie batter. as soon as we arrived gina had fresh soft chewy beautiful warm browines waiting for us. they were sooooo good. by the time brad and adam returned to the car they already had it run and were on their way home. adam, karen and richard were very lucky last night and got a cold shower instead of freezing. we are all learning new ways to stay clean and fresh, or just not. this morning we split up. adam gary cammie and julie went with brad and gina and several peruvian brothers and sisters to some villiage i would rather not try to spell. some of the kids from the newly started children's home will be baptized there in their home villiage today. adam will be speaking. these kids live here in the childrens home durring the week where they aattend school and on the weekend walk back to their villiages to help their parrents with housework. virgil will be speaking at the local meeting here. jon trev, and rich accompanied him for support. the elderly ladies, karen and i stayed back to watch the house, wash a mountain of dishes and start lunch. several are starting to feel sick. brad says there is a 24 hour flu going around we hope that it stops. we are sharing many things and i am sure very vulnerable to sickness. everyone has bloody noses, but that doesn't really bother. karen and i had a salesman come to the door this morning. we told him we didn't want any. thats all for now. we are looking forward to calling our families tonihgt. there is a special $3 for unlimited calls to the us. keep us in your prays as we will continue going out to several more villiages this week. today is a rest day . also prays for our health so we are able to work and give brad and gina a break.
